When I was about 12 years old my 14 (at the time) year old sister was always begging my parents for a belly piercing…I always sat there and told my parents “It’s going to get infected and she’s going to have to go to the emergency room and have to get surgery”.
To my surprise a year later I found myself wanting a belly ring, but of course to my parents I was way to young and they told me that they would think about it when I was 16. I agreed and set a little timer until my 16th birthday on my MySpace.
Two years passed and I found myself wanting my navel pierced more and more. What made it worse was that in March 2007 my friend got her navel pierced and always talked and bragged about it…
I knew I wasn’t going to be able to wait another 9 months before I got it. So early march I began talking to my parents more and more about it. But instead of me being able to get it when I was 16 they told me strictly that I wouldn’t be able to get it until i was 18!
Of course knowing that I wanted it now and not having to wait another 2 years and 3 months to get it. I started to beg them and do every possible chore or errand I could for my parents until they finally gave in around May!
Then on June 30th, 2007 my dad drove me down to a piercing and tattoo studio and I got the first feeling of a piercing being sunk into my skin.
It only hurt for seconds when it was going into my skin, but after that I didn’t feel any pain. Of course with all piercings I had my worries if I was going to be able to keep it from getting infected…
It did get somewhat infected and I took as much time as I possibly could to help it get back to normal health and surprisingly I’ve changed it 5 different times and it’s fully healed. I love my belly ring and it’s the best thing I’ve ever done in my life!
I love all types of belly rings, and I love to wear all types of different clothes with them. Basically if a belly ring is cute, I’m buying it!
If you can’t decide whether or not to get your belly pierced, I’m saying now..get it done! Because life is all about risks, and this is just a tiny one.
Wow it’s gone from me being completely against it, to me wanting it more then anything in just 3 years..now that’s what I call a change of heart.
