I’m 55 years old and have had my belly piercing for about 3 months. I saw an actress in a movie with a pierce and have always wanted a jewel in my navel. I woke up on Monday morning and decided to ‘do it’. I called a few places (closed) and eventually found an open tattoo parlor in my home town. I drove myself there, walked in and signed the papers. I was very apprehensive as I hate needles. I had to wait a few minutes (agonizing), but finally was escorted downstairs by the piercer. He got everything ready, wanting me to watch – NO THANKS! I had to stand so he could clean, mark and clamp; then I laid down and he said “I’m putting the needle through now”. It hurt – not horrible – then he put the CBR (captive bead ring) through and put the bead in place. I was done, stood up to look and almost fainted! I had to sit with my head between my knees for a while, then I was ok and left.
The worst part for me was after. I couldn’t bend over or stand to have anything touching it for a couple of weeks. Sometimes I would accidentally bash it with my purse or my pants would rub it (DOUBLE OUCH). I wore a band aid at night for a while. At one point some gooey stuff was coming out. I changed to a curved barbell after 7 weeks and the problems ended. Also, I had to give up my cherished nightly soak in the tub for about 8 weeks (I don’t like showers).
