Belly Button Piercing Aftercare Tips and The Best Products

Belly Piercing aftercare tips

Follow these tips and your navel will heal quickly!

Proper belly button piercing aftercare is needed to heal your “brand new” navel piercing. The faster your new piercing heals, the sooner you can try new belly rings!

There are three stages in the healing process:

Stage One: The Inflammatory Stage. Your new piercing is an open wound. Bleeding, swelling and tenderness are all expected.

Stage Two: The Growth phase. This can last several months when you get a Belly Piercing. In this phase, your body reacts to heal the wound. ‘Crusties’ are common to this phase. Crusties are formed when some discharge from your new piercing dries and forms a crust on your jewelry. Never pick at crusties with dirty fingernails. During phase two, your body seals the channel of the piercing. Your piercing is considered healed at the end of this phase but may still be quite tender and will still need care.

Stage Three: The Maturation Phase. The channel of the piercing matures and becomes scar tissue. You may find that your piercing moves from stage two to three and back again many times before it heals fully. If a piercing is mistreated it can regress very quickly and you may find yourself back at square one.

As discussed, crusties, formed by a clear discharge from your piercing, are common. But do not confuse this clear discharge with pus, which is a thick, colored(yellowish-white) and foul-smelling substance. Pus is often indicative of infection.

One other normal piercing secretion is called sebum. This is often mistaken for pus but is recognizable by the fact that it is more solid, or cheese-like. It too, is foul-smelling. It is naturally produced by the body and is not a sign of infection.

When I was 13 years old I had my neighbor Tiffany who was also 13 at the time come over and hang out and we decided it’d be cool to pierce my belly button.

So she went and got some needles and came back. We got prepped and she started pushing the needle through, it was really painful at first and I started screaming and crying (I’m not good with pain!) 😡

So she quit when the needle was halfway through and I had to pierce it the rest of the way by myself ❗

I guess I just passed out and when I woke up I realized that it was finally all the way through and I do not know how it got finished up.

But anyways now I am in LOVE with my belly piercing it was the best thing I have ever gotten 😉

First I was really scared…

I am 19 and I just pierced it a week ago.

I bought everything at the store.

So I was home with my boyfriend and decided to pierce it.

I picked out a belly ring.

I used the clamps and placed it, then I pressed down the needle a little bit because I needed a better grip of the clamp. Then I continued to push the needle.

Finally I took the body jewelry and pressed it on the needle.

And I pushed the needle right through. And I added the ball……the things I used were, clamps, q-tip, rubbing alcohol, and a needle.

Self-done And No Regrets!

Belly Piercing Story

On March 21,2009 I pierced my navel. I got a kit from TitaniumOnly.com a week before that. I had been wanting my navel pierced since 2005, and I had done tons of research in that time! 💡

I woke up at 7 in the morning, because I was so excited about doing it. I drank some orange juice to raise my blood sugar, cleaned my navel with the alcohol, clamped the skin (the part that hurt most) and pushed the needle through slowly.

After that I cleaned up the blood, removed the clamp (dumb move) and tried to insert my Bioplast glow in the dark blue barbell.

After 7 minutes of trying, IT BROKE! 😯

Luckily, the piercing kit came with a CBR. So I put that in and after 10 minutes I got the ball in, and took a shower. Then 4 days later I had symptoms of a metal allergy. So I bought a Bioplast barbell from (the best place to go!)

And got that a week later. So when I got it, I was trying to insert it, but it was too short for my piercing. I was dumb enough to leave it in for 2 days before taking it out...

I took that out and put my CBR back in. Well that wasn’t easy because the bead refused to go back in! After 30 minutes I gave up and left it out. Now, a month later, the allergy is gone, and I have a happy piercing! 🙂

By Myself

By Shawna, Ohio

Last week, I decided that I really wanted to pierce something. I’m one of those Christian girls with the over protective parents that think getting your first holes in your ears makes you look like a slut. i asked to get my second holes done, and my parents said no, not until I’m 18.

I didn’t want to wait 3 years to have someone do it properly, so i decided to do it myself. well, i really wanted to do my second holes, but that wasn’t an option because I knew that they would see it. so i decided to pierce my belly button.

i did an inverted (on the bottom) the first time i did it, i got half way through and blacked out. the second time, i numbed it with ice and it worked! the next day at school, I realized the skin was to thin, and it looked like it was going to rip out. so I took it out and let it heal for a few days.

last night, I decided to redo it, and it turned out GREAT! 🙂 I have just a regular earring in right now, since I can’t really get an actual belly ring, but my birthday is coming up soon and my friend is going to get me one. but I really don’t recommend doing it yourself.

I only did it because I am EXTREMELY OCD and I knew that everything would be over-sterilized with a low risk of infections that I could get by doing this myself. I also did a lot of research to make sure I was doing it right, etc.

Anyway, i love my new piercing! 🙂
