How To Mend A Broken Heart

By Calli, from Canada.

I was 15 and a crazy looking punk kid with orange, spiked hair and chains on my ripped jeans… But I still have the same piercings as I did eight years ago. No more, no less. I’d mentioned a couple times that I’d been thinking about a navel ring, but had never done anything about it.

One day I got a call from my boyfriend calling it quits. Losing a first love is never pleasant. My mom and I went downtown for ice cream and as we were walking down the street with our cones we passed a little tattoo parlour that’s been there forever. She turned to me and said “How about that belly button ring?” and we walked inside.

The piercer’s name was Julie, she had long black hair and was COVERED in tattoos. My mom and I showed our IDs and she (nervously) paid and signed a consent form. Julie took us to the back room and I sat in a comfy black chair while she explained the procedure.

She showed us how the needles were individually packaged and the sharps box where they were disposed of. She swabbed the are clean, applied the clamps and made a small ink dot where my vein was. She said I didn’t have to look while the needle went in, but I was almost entranced by it.

I watched her press the needle through my flesh and feed the ring through. It was a small, surgical steel ring with a hematite captive bead. I felt pain, but it wasn’t bad pain. It was like the pinch from the needle erased a little of the hurt I was feeling from my breakup. I felt a little lightheaded so I sat back while she handed me a sheet of care instructions and went through the steps with me.

It only took about four weeks to heal completely, although the sheet said six. I washed it 3 times a day with saline and put polysporin on it afterwards. That navel ring helped me heal.

Today I have 8 piercings and 4 tattoos, each one to mark milestone or tell a story. They help me heal and they help me remember. I will continue to modify my body until a ripe old age and encourage my kids and grandkids to do the same.

Thru the skin…

By Krissi.

On the day of March 6, 2010 i got my belly button pierced.

I’ve wanted it for years and finally had the guts to ask my mom (btw I’m 15 yrs old). Not to mention I’m a bit terrified of needles..lol..but I kinda figured i would have to go through some pain to get what i want. Like my mom always says it hurts to be beautiful. When my mom gave me her “approval” i started searching for local tattoo and piercing parlors in the area.

I ended up deciding to go to a place called Wonderland Tattoos in St. Clair Shores. The service was great and the place was clean.! And it was only 25 bills outta my pocket. My piercer was a guy named Robert. He was absolutely great in taking care of me that day. I just couldn’t stop smiling. i just kept thinking in my head that i was getting what i wanted all along. Rob had my mom and I sign some papers b/c i’m under age and he talked to me about how to clean my piercing, what to clean it with, how often to clean it, etc. and all that other good stuff.

I was soooo excitd until he took me to a room and told me to lie down on the table. Then the smile just disappeared. You would have thought someone had just brought me some bad news. That’s when he starting telling me not to make any sudden moves and to take 3 deep breaths. When i took my breaths i told him i was ready in a shivery whisper..(haha! i was so scared. wish someone recorded it so i can laugh at how big of a punk i was!) As soon as he had the needle about 5 inches away from my belly i thought i was going to cry like a big baby.

I yelled and told my mom to come and hold my hand but she just sat there and laughed like it was a joke. After a couple of seconds it was then that i realized Rob was done. I barely felt the needle go through. All that complaining and whining for nothing. It was just a itsy bitsy teeny weeny pinch. No pain at all.!
Bring out the cute short cropped belly tops.!

Now I’m just ready for more piercings and tattoos to come in the future…..sweet 16 coming up 🙂 !!!!!!!!!!!!

Piercing Promise

belly button piercing

By Cassondra from Cocoa Beach, USA.

My best friend and I have wanted to pierce our belly buttons since we were 12. So one day while watching 13 we made a pack that when we were both 16 we would get our piercings done together.

The next day we both went out to buy fake, spring loaded rings and wore them to school for years. Well soon after, i moved about an hour and a half away, but we kept in contact. We had made so many silly pacts that this one soon sliped my mind. I wasn’t reminded of it until I moved in with her at 15, and she had her nose pierced. I had asked her if she had anything else pierced, and she replied with, ” no I was waiting on you.”

So we started to look into piercing parlors, and they were far too expensive at the time. Then we began to consider self piercing. Bad idea. I tried it and couldn’t even manage to get the bell bar in. I was lucky not to have done some serious damage, or gotten it infected. So we gave up on the idea for a little while.

A few months went past and we saw a sign at a local tatoo shop that said two for one piercings!!! And that was it, I was sold. When I asked my mother, I was completly shocked when she said why not. Granted she had hers pierced but I never thought that she would give her consent. A week later we went up to the shop, and my friend wanted to go first.

Well we thought that this would be best because she was afraid or needles. Well we were wrong!! When she lied down on the table, and they put the clamp on her, she started to freek out. She actually managed to hit the laddie doing the piercing in the face as the needle was going though, and when it was done started to have a panic attack! Well this shook me up quite a bit, and I wanted to back out, but my friend guilt triped me to get on the table since she went through with it. Well the whole time I keep saying this is a bad idea over and over again. I even tried to get up when she was trying to put the clamp on.

And to my supprise I didn’t feel it go through. I had to see the piercing for my self to belive that it was really done! So i hoped off the table payed and went strait to myboyfriends house, to show it off.

I guess some times it pays to take a risk cause both me and my freind still love our piercings, and I belive that the whole act made our friendship stronger!

The birthday present

my-birthday-present-belly-button-story

It all started one day when i was asked what i wanted for my 15th birthday… and my mom had been telling me i could not get any face or more ear piercings but i could get my belly button pierced. So my boyfriend decided if i would get it done he would pay for it. My mom said wanted it to be it done right so she wanted to go to a doctors office.

I was a little anxious about every thing but my mom called the doctors office the morning of the appointment and asked about it and the secretary said they give a shot to deadin it, and to take a benedryll to help my nerves. Well i took 2!! when i got to the doctors office there was this lady who had had her belly pierced 3 times, 2 by the doctor and said i wouldnt feel a thing.

Well finally my name was called to go to the back, i was a little nervous and a tad excited too.

The doctor was crazy and liked to joke around. he told me he could do it with his eyes closed but i told him i would pass on being the first, so while he was telling me that he give me a shot to numb the area.my boyfriend recorded the whole piercing. the whole process was not so bad. then he gave me a paper with all the do’s and dont’s about my piercing. it has not been long since i had my piercing but i was told to wait 6 weeks before i change my belly jewelry. i was scared to get it done but once it was over i was proud to say i was brave enough 😀

I’m Still Hiding Mine!!

By Hannah, Greenwich, London

Belly Piercing Story

Hey, i have had my belly piercing for over 5 weeks and i love it soooo much. i got it done for my 15th birthday because i asked my mum if i could have it as my present and she said yes, i also got my third ear piercing and the top of my ear done because i thought you only live once, right? 🙂

I don’t live with my mum i live with my dad and his partner, they have no idea that i have it done, i am not only hiding my belly piercing but also my new ear piercings…i intend to tell my dad when i am 16 because i know he’ll be so angry if i tell him i got it done when i was 15, i had 2 beg him for ages to get him to allow me to have my 2nd ear piercings done…whats he going to say if he finds out i got my thirds, top AND belly done!

I feel bad about going behind his back but i really wanted them done. i want 1 more piercing and that is my nose but i am not getting it done behind my dads back plus i can’t hide it so i asked him but he said ‘when your 16’ its only 11 more months but i can’t wait, i wanna get it done in the summer so it has time 2 heal because at my school u r not allowed to have them, my school is so strict, your only allowed to wear 1 pair of earrings and they have 2 be studs and silver or gold, how stupid is that!!! and it is a girls school- we are girls, we need to wear more than one pair!

So i am hiding my thirds and top from the teachers at school and my dad and his partner at home! When i woke up on the 21st of December (my birthday) i was soo excited and extremely nervous. i didn’t eat breakfast which isn’t a good idea because if you haven’t eaten and u r scared of needles there’s a good chance you’ll faint but i am not scared of them and so was fine, but don’t risk it!

So me, my mum, and my little brother drove into town and when i saw the shop in the distance my heart began to accelerate and i remember thinking ‘you’ll be fine it will all be over soon and tonight you will have all your piercings done’ but i also couldn’t believe it was finally here I WAS GETTING MY BELLY BUTTON PIERCED! BTW incase you are wondering you have to be 16 to get it done on your own because you have to fill out a form but my mum was with me so she did them for me.

The women sent us upstairs for the forms to be filled in and there was a women waiting there-her ears were covered in earings there was no space on her ears!-but it looked cool.

She let me chose my third piercing earrings, my top earrings and my belly bar (i went for a rose double crystal 1), she then told me that she was going to pierce my 3rd’s but was sending me upstairs for the rest.

She told me that the top was going to be pierced with a needle and that made me panic and i nearly said i don’t want the top done but she said it didn’t hurt at all and my mum said just get it done, so i went through with it, i have to say my 3rds hurt more than my top and belly put 2gether!

When she had done my 3rds i went upstairs where another women was waiting for me, she was really kind to me. My mum had to go move the car and i said i would wait until she was back to get my belly done. The women put a small black dot on my ear and asked me if that was ok i said yes and she told me to lye down on the table. she clamped my ear, sprayed it and then pocked the needle through…i didn’t feel a thing!

The women was right! the process was the same as the belly piercing so that gave me some confidence. My mum wasn’t back yet so i decided to get my belly done and surprise her when she got back. The women dotted my belly button and asked me if it was ok and i said yes then i lay down on the table and lifted up my top, she put the clamp on my stomach i was nervous again but the women talked to me and distracted me.

I was explaining to her how my dad had no idea what i was doing and that i wasn’t going to tell him until i was 16 and while i was talking she pushed the needle through my stomach i panicked for a split second but before i realised that she had tricked me it was over. I couldn’t help but smile it didn’t hurt at all!

I got up and looked in the mirror…it looked amazing it didn’t bleed or anything! I heard my mum coming up the stairs, so I put my top down, she came into the room unaware that it was all done, I smiled and showed her she liked it 2, i hugged my piercer and thanked her and headed out of the shop. I was scared of touching it and i wouldn’t lean forward when I sat down because I didn’t want to agitate it.

It hasn’t got infected yet and last week I changed the piercing because I bought the cutest turquoise belly bar and wanted to put it in and because my piercing was annoying me because as it heeled the bar had moved down and was sticking out too much. I was soo worried incase I couldn’t get it back in or it got infected but everything went great. It felt so weird changing it because of the holes but I didn’t mind. The wholes were a small price to pay for something as beautiful as a belly piercing!

Belly Piercing StoryI still have the turquoise belly bar in now as you can see in my picture and this one is smaller so only the balls of the barbell are showing and not the bar. I probably shouldn’t have changed it so early but i couldn’t wait, I was lucky that it didn’t get infected, your actually supposed to leave it in for 3 months, I would advise u to leave it as long as u can incase it goes wrong.

I haven’t got the flattest of stomachs but i don’t care because the piercing is for me to see and no one else to see, I am tempted to get the bottom of my belly pierced but I’ll have to ask my mum…another piercing to hide from my dad! lol …well that’s if my mum lets me 😉

If you want your belly pierced then get it done and don’t let anything stop you, they are great, if you don’t have the flattest of stomachs it doesn’t matter!

If you are scared of it hurting, a little pain is a small sacrifice to make for something as amazing as a belly piercing. Mine didn’t hurt like so many other peoples belly piercings wouldn’t have hurt but that doesn’t mean you won’t feel a thing.

Everyone is different but I can safely say on behalf of everyone who has there belly button done that it isn’t unbearable, don’t worry it is over in a matter of seconds hope you enjoyed my belly button piercing story and hope it has helped you decide whether you want to get a belly piercing or any other piercing, although i would advise you if you are planning on hiding it from your parents don’t go swimming in a bikini! lol…I still haven’t figured that 1 out for myself yes..but after 2 more months i should be able to take it out and leave it but the holes will be visible so I will wear a costume for swimming when my dad is there until i am 16! lol

Thank you for reading my story! 🙂
